Press release

Weather Event – June 22, 2024

Published: June 27, 2024

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

On June 22, 2024 at approximately 1900 hours, a significant weather event occurred within Dane County. As a result of this weather event, the Oregon Area Fire/EMS District received numerous calls for trees that had fallen, power lines that were down, and loss of power. Impacting this event more, was the presence of the annual Oregon Summer Fest Celebration that was taking place near Kiser Fireman’s Park. This event included a main tent with live entertainment and a carnival.

In conjunction with pre-set evacuation and sheltering plans, the carnival was closed for the evening and those in attendance were provided with safe places to shelter while the storms went through the area. No injuries were reported as a result of this weather event.

During this period, the OAFED responded to the following:

  • 12 weather-related incidents involving down trees or power lines.
  • One automatic mutual-aid response for a structure fire.
  • Two EMS incidents which required transport to the hospital.

We would like to thank the Village of Oregon Police Department, the Dane County Communications Center, our partners Alliant Energy and MG&E, and the Oregon Chamber of Commerce for your help and cooperation during this event.
