As the Division Chief of EMS, it is my honor to oversee the emergency medical services of the OAFED. This division is fortunate to have a great staff of EMTs to ensure that pre-hospital care is provided 24/7/365 to our community and neighboring communities. This diverse group of individuals come from all walks of life to support our operation and to ensure that our community’s residents, business owners, and visitors will be well cared for in their time of need.
The OAFED EMS Division is supported by career, part-time, and intern members certified at the EMT-Basic, Advanced EMT, and EMT-Paramedic levels. Beginning in February of 2023, the OAFED enhanced the service to the Paramedic level of care. We provide single-medic Advanced Life Support care to the community and our neighbors. Oftentimes, two paramedics are scheduled on the primary ambulance. By utilizing personnel from the daily fire crew and our interns, we can staff our second ambulance when there are simultaneous EMS responses within the fire/EMS District. This second ambulance will respond at the highest level of personnel licensure and is often a Paramedic ambulance as well.
The goal of the EMS Division is to have a culture of learning and growth. With the ever-changing landscape of EMS services and personnel, this division welcomes providers of all skill levels to practice their skills. As part of our goal, we encourage the growth of our staff’s knowledge, skills, and abilities to allow them to meet their personal goals as emergency medical technicians. Those goals range from being a volunteer to give back to the community, young individuals looking to become career firefighters/Paramedics, and others who are using this experience as part of their educational and career development.
