Press release

Cledell Street Gas Leak

Published: March 28, 2025

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

On March 28, 2025, the Oregon Area Fire/EMS District was dispatched to the smell of
natural gas outside in the area of Cledell Street and Ames Street in the Village of Oregon. When
fire and EMS units arrived on the scene, there was a heavy odor of natural gas in the area.
Utilizing gas monitoring devices, natural gas readings were within the explosive range. Alliant
Energy was contacted to assist with the incident, and residents in the area were immediately
evacuated to a safe location.

At the time of the incident, a storm system moved through the area. Upon investigation,
the storm produced a lightning strike to a tree in the area. That electricity from the lightning
strike ultimately led to a natural gas line being ruptured. The affected area was isolated to
Cledell Street between Chelsea Court and South Perry Parkway. Oregon fire and EMS units
cleared the scene at approximately 830 am after residents were allowed back into their
residences. Alliant Energy personnel remained on the scene and are anticipating the repairs will
be complete by noon today.

The OAFED would like to thank the Brooklyn Fire and EMS Protection District, the Village
of Oregon Police Department, Alliant Energy, and the Dane County Communications Center for
their assistance with this incident.
